In Honor of Our Seniors
BSU Scholarship Dinner
Being a minority in America is often hard, especially for young people. We must give some credit where it's due. Things have gotten better for us. Yet, we have a long way to go. In Wyoming High School African Americans make up less then 10% of the school population. This makes it hard for them to feel welcomed, and a part of things with other students. Believe it or not, racism exist in our school. Just ask around. This is only one of the reasons we try to encourage all Black Students to be a member of BSU, so we can be together and learn about our outstanding unique culture and teach others about it.
When one of our members is graduating we take it as one of the worlds greatest accomplishments. We reward those who are seniors with scholarship money to use in their future education. Each year we have a BSU Scholarship dinner in honor of our Seniors to praise them for their accomplishments. We also ask that the students invite family members and friends. During this dinner the students read some of their many accomplishments and what they want to do in furthering their lives. In additon they honor those who have helped them the most. The seniors proceed down the aisle while the audience applauds. Each year is a success and we look forward to next year's events.
